If you’ve visited the website recently, you might have noticed that we gave the site a complete makeover. I’m excited to announce that Side Hustle Stack is back!

You might remember our first launch around this time 2 years ago on a suped-up Notion page. Since then, we’ve continued to attract about 500,000 monthly viewers to our site and focused on connecting folks to high quality earning opportunities.

If I’m being honest, during that timeframe, it felt like we were battling a looming evil that only continued to get more evil. Chronologically: This past 2 year period put us through COVID-19, a panicked exodus into virtually remote everything, a reframing of what and who would be referred to when talking about ‘essential jobs’, brutal layoffs across the private sector, and a looming macroeconomic sentiment that feels like ‘recession’ punctuates sentences now in lieu of the full stop.

The dollar continues to be stretched thinner, but especially for folks who do not have a fixed income or are most affected by changes to a platform.

Data from our site visits only continues to support this. As the economy gets tougher, we see more people looking to flexible, part-time, and alternative means of work to support themselves. Our goal with Side Hustle Stack remains to allow anyone to find better opportunities and get paid for doing work that they enjoy. We want to become the site to not only look for work but also get an x-ray look at platforms before signing up for something you might not like; a resource you can visit to level up your earnings.

To do this, we’ve thinned down the site to a first set of about 70 platforms. These are opportunities that we can vouch for, and in recommending them stuck to the side of work that did not require too many requirements. These opportunities have an ‘Evergreen’ tag next to the company logo.

It might feel like we’ve taken away some functionality from the site, but I promise these are just going back to the drawing board to be improved instead of away forever! We’re in this for the long game, and you can expect regular updates to the site moving forwards. Some of our first priorities are better mobile viewing and better filtering.

In the meantime, below is some functionality that you’ll see on the new site:

• 5 first categories. Creator, Coach, Gig Worker, Merchant, Host.

• Cleaned up profiles. We’ve stuck to the more verifiable basics for these like requirements and pricing information. The average earnings on our old site tended to be misleading, and we’re thinking of ways to bring this back properly.

• The stack reshuffles. If you reload the site or come back to it again, the platforms rearrange themselves. We think this helps you discover work better.

As the site grows, we’ll also continue to add platforms to the stack. However, our plan here is to approach this pretty slowly. I will make sure that anything that goes up on the website respects our level of honesty and puts people first, and this can only come with white-glove scrutiny.
